Silvergate Homes, a family-run business in Niagara, is proud to announce its role in the development and construction of the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Niagara Health’s St. Catharines site.

The new Family Room, designed to provide comfort and respite to families of children receiving treatment, was officially unveiled on Thursday September 5th with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room offers families a serene space to rest, recharge, and access critical services, including laundry, meals, and shower facilities, without having to leave the hospital. According to Niagara Health, the room provides “a home-like environment steps away from their child’s bedside,” further enhancing the hospital’s ability to support patients and their families. Mario De Divitiis, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities South Central Ontario (RMHC SCO), highlighted the spirit of community behind the project, stating, “Today is a beautiful example of what can happen when a community comes together.”

Silvergate Homes, which is overseeing the development of the space, has partnered with SilverLine Group and Mountainview Building Group, with the three companies pledging an additional $200,000 to support the project. The development of the Family Room has been made possible through generous funding from McDonald’s Canada, its independent franchisees, RMHC Canada, and RMHC Global. Local fundraising efforts are supported by the Rotary Club of St. Catharines South and the May Court Club of St. Catharines.

“We are honoured to be a part of this meaningful project alongside RMHC SCO and Niagara Health,” says Kelly Anderson, Sales and Marketing Manager at Silvergate Homes. “As a family business rooted in supporting our community, we take pride in contributing to the creation of a comforting space where families can find solace during challenging times. This project demonstrates our commitment to making a positive impact in Niagara and beyond.”

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is modeled after a similar space at McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton, which serves between 85 and 120 family members daily, many of whom are from the Niagara Region. Lynn Guerriero, President and CEO of Niagara Health, stressed the significance of this new addition: “The Family Room is an important extension of the care we provide at Niagara Health, offering a comfortable, welcoming space for families during what can be the most stressful times of their lives.”

“As a local family business founded by our parents, family and community have always been our core values,” says John Passero, President, Silvergates Homes. “I know I can speak for my entire family when I say I am confident our parents would be supporters of RMHC’s mission.”

Silvergate Homes is proud to be part of this impactful project, ensuring that Niagara families have access to vital support during challenging times.
